i dont think i've ever spent so long on a painting before.. but i think it was good for me. i used to give up on something after a while and not go into many details... but i decided that was a bad habit so i'm trying to reform the way i paint 
i'm not 100% satisfied with this and i do plan to improve it... such as the background.
the bird basically represents a dark "part" of us.. it could be anything from an addiction to a secret- something we should let go of. the ribbon is the hold that it may have on us.. or that we refuse to let go of. i wanted to paint the triumph of relinquishing this... (overcoming it.) this is personal because a big hold on me lately has been self doubt and giving up easily.

I love this image! I wouldn't change a thing of the background.. It gives her dimension, grounding the beautiful image with mystery as to who she is, where she is, and why she is there... Stunning job!
